motel mozaique woot [Dec. 23rd, 2004|01:13 pm]

[Current Mood | cold]
[Current Music |The Mars Volta - Cassandra Gemini]

Will Johnson zet rustig zijn stoeltje neer.

the bright eyes gig in the tivoli has been officially confirmed today. Though we knew it all along.

TIVOLI OUDEGRACHT

woensdag 23 februari 2005

BRIGHT EYES & support: Rilo Kiley

zaalopen: 19:30

aanvang: 20:15

entree: € 13,-

i heard it would be a electronic set. Strange thing is that since the faint is conor's backing band during these electronic shows, rilo kiley is opening. But rilo is okay, too bad they left saddle creek.

The perron55 gig was great thanks to all the nice people showing up.
and in april once my internship has finished, my and the great cedric will start our musical endeavours.

a lot of vehicle shows coming up next year check our website: www.vehicleband.net

tired... [Oct. 29th, 2004|05:43 pm]
hi reader.

the gig vehicle played at the paradiso went extremely well. Almost no mistakes, good setlist, good crowd (few exceptions), good sound, loud, tight etc.. and late. HAs been a very tiring week for me, i should get a good nights sleep tonight. Tomorrow i'll see and review ben christophers in the ekko and i reckon that it will get late afterwards..right now im at my parents, but im gonna catch a train soon back to utrecht. ...i also got a new place to live, close to the place where i work and closer to the station/centre/ekko/friends etc..

with these things there's no telling, we'll just have to wait and see.

[Current Music |Animal Collective - Hey Light]

hey reader,

im back again, after all these promises that i would write something down on a regular basis. But i just been busy with doing a lot and busy with doing nothing. Lots of things are shifting and changing, and some things will always stay the same. If this sounds vague, im not trying to be, it just is. But i guess time will solve everything, like it always does.

my musical endeavours:
shannon wright / yann tiersen
frames - burned the maps
son ambulance - key
bright eyes singles.

i like these records a lot. I hope to receive the bright eyes singles in the mail tomorrow. Vehicle will play in paradiso tomorrow at 1.30am (isnt that insane). but hell, its paradisoo...

the faint will also play in the melkweg september 18th, so thats pretty cool..
and conor oberst will do a solo gig in amsterdam. and i will go to nick cave soon, and a whole lot more.

my internship starts after this weekend as well, im curious, afraid and a whole lot more about this. 10 months of 4-days-in-the-week-labour. Ive got to keep up social structures, listen to music, review music, work in ekko etc.... but we'll see how this works out, time to grow up melvin..

ben gibbard the lyricist [Sep. 22nd, 2004|01:53 pm]
It was the first two weeks of autumn
I kissed you on the cheek and gave you flowers out of season
And all the people at the drive-in,
Make out with each other until the second feature is closing
At the end and you're roaming to find your keys in the lot

I took you out on Friday
We shared a milkshake at the sock hop
When we were done, we went to watch the sunset
But it never sank as deep as my heart
Did at closing at the end and you're roaming to find your keys
And they're closing at the end
And you're roaming to find your keys in the lot

by all-time quarterback - sock hop

these lyrics are superb.

bazar curieux [Sep. 21st, 2004|03:26 pm]

After having an amazing dinner at ROTOWN, we headed over to the nighttown. I should be on the guestlist since thomas from saddle creek put me on there. Once there the girl at the counter couldnt find my name on there. Some other guy said i had to make arrangements with the faint, but at that moment she stumbles across an envelope with my name on it and a guestticket. In the main hall narcotango was playing, it was okay but the volume was very low and people were talking over it, so the music didnt have the effect it should have had. We then saw mara carlyle which had this norah jones vibe going on, her voice was stunning but missed a little character. Feist did have that character and with her sampling/looping machine she gave her songs a whole new approach. She recorded vocal and guitar parts live and played over them then. Homevideo completely blew me away, it didnt know what to expect of them. They had a joy division groove, mixed with some interpol and radiohead (during KID A). And there drummer had a great sense of rhythm. Next up were the Libertines, a lot was expecting of this band. Were they gonna live up to their expectations (especially since pete is out of the band (for now)). Well partly, some songs had energy and were great, others were just boring and mediocre. And yes, you miss pete on a lot of the songs. The faint started at 1.30am pretty late, but the crowd was ready for it. The started out with the Birth, and played a lot of songs of their last record 'wet from birth'. But also some from their earlier records and also the song 'Take me to the hospital'. This song has been released on the saddle creek 50 compilation album. But their set was rocking, visuals were great. But i would have liked to hear some more older songs. Hope to see them again later this year. And then the nighttrain, 2 hours in the train. Got in bed at 06.30am.

The Futureheads - The Futureheads [679;2004] [Sep. 1st, 2004|05:05 pm]

The Futureheads - The Futureheads
www.thefutureheads.com

Riding on the we-sound-like-the-gang-of-four wave created by Franz Ferdinand and Dogs Die in Hot cars is the band The Futureheads. They produce hook-laden, unconventional popsongs with very strong vocal harmonies. 'Danger of the Water' is a prefect example of their vocal harmony qualities. The songs don't rely on verse-chorus-verse structures which gives a lot of the songs very unexpected twists and turns. There is an enormous drive that rushes through the whole album, 14 songs in just a little more than 30 minutes. The centerpiece of the self-titled album is the song 'Carnival Kids' which incorporates all that the futureheads have to offer in less than 3 minutes. The sound of the album is very thick, with a lot of harmonies and guitars swirling around. A little more sonic diversity wouldnt hurt this band. But overal I recommend this album to all who like the franz ferdinand record(and are getting a little bored with it).

[Current Music |modest mouse - float on]

sonic youth was pretty good. I know it was a promotional gig for the new album, but more songs from their numerous other albums i wouldve like better. And some of the noise parts were a bit tedious, i like noise and the way it is created but still.

yesterday i saw a documentary on nova about bill o reilly -> talkshow host @ fox. He seems to be one of the biggest influential idiots ive ever seen (along with the whole republican party ofcourse). In his talkshow its not about the guests or letting them finish their sentences, its about his narrow-minded vision. That he is right-wing is his own choice, but not listening to other people whyy????

i love shannon wright's music and float on by modest mouse is such a great song!!

mark lanegan + cees place [Aug. 26th, 2004|07:22 pm]
[Current Mood |nerdy]
[Current Music |Centro-matic - Biology Tricks]

Mark lanegan was quite a dissappointment for me. The sound wasnt optimal and the band didnt have the musical diversity the music of lanegan begs for.

It seemed that most of the people i spoke agreed on this fact. After the show we were sitting outside when a girl told us about a place where you could play. So we went over there. But before bart and wouter from boy ler had the chance to take the stage, 2 old bluesrockers joined gerben and myself. So we started playing with these, and they couldnt play a single thing. But we had fun especially when i did the drumming and gerben did his emo-guitar playing.

[Current Music |David Bowie - Starman]

Everybody is gone it seems.
So im trying to entertain myself with movies and music.

the blonde redhead gig wasnt very entertaining, sometimes very boring. I think its more a band you listen to at home. But still i had a nice time with a lot of friends.

It seems that TMR87 is finally starting up. Tuesday is our first rehearsal without the bassplayer though, he couldnt make it. But this is good too i think.

I also wrote a whole lot of lyrics and some riffs...
